Originally a response to the COVID crisis that ended on-campus internships for aspiring life-scientists and doctors, the TechFoundation-Mass General Brigham Remote Data Science Internship program has just completed its 5th year of successful operations.
In 2025, Mass General Brigham-TechFoundation will host it’s 6th cohort with placements to world-class researchers/clinicians.
Through this program bright, aspiring life science and pre-med students have the opportunity to experience life science research and apply data analytical skills learned in classes to real-world medical research. The TechFoundation internship program has been designed to provide participants with a 8-12 week experience working remotely with top tier researchers on real medical research projects.
Each participant will be partnered with a Principal Investigator based at Harvard Medical School, the Brigham and Women's Hospital (a teaching hospital of HMS), and the Dana Farber Cancer Center. Projects will include data validation, analysis, and project management and will directly relate to research for publication in peer-reviewed medical journals. Participants will receive IRB training and certification at the start of the program.
In addition to a cash stipend, participants will be provided online training in data science analytics and professional support (limited) from data scientists/programmers to advance their knowledge of data analysis and related programming. Experience with Python (or R) is a plus, but is not required.
The program is open to exceptionally strong rising seniors and graduate students in STEM or medical programs, broadly. The application is a rolling process with the applications open in October 2024. The final deadline is December 31, 2024. We recommend that candidates avoid waiting for the final deadline. For most applicants, we seek to act on their application within 30-45 days of submission.
In addition to the online training and professional support, each participant will receive at least one mentoring session with faculty deeply experienced in medical school admission processes.
This program has been and we expect it to highly competitive.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for this internship without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability.
